Bouhanna Art Advisory is an independent consultancy specialising in Modern and Contemporary art, based in Miami and New York.

Its purpose is to help collectors navigate the art market and make considered decisions, in terms of quality as well as value. The advisory assists its clients at every stage, and follows the major fairs, auctions and exhibitions in order to represent their interests. It was founded by Michael Bouhanna, former Vice President at Sotheby's New York.

About

Michael Bouhanna has spent fifteen years in the international art market, eleven of them at Sotheby's in Paris, London and New York. As Vice President, he headed Post-War and Contemporary Art sales, after leading a department that generated over two hundred million dollars in auction and private sales over three years.

He advises on Modern and Contemporary art, and has placed works by Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Marc Chagall, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Pierre Soulages, Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, George Condo, Jean Dubuffet, Louise Bourgeois and Vera Molnár, among others, in private collections.

Recommendations on which works to acquire, and which to sell, based on their art-historical significance and a close knowledge of the market.

Access

Works that are not publicly offered, and buyers who are not publicly looking, through relationships built over fifteen years on the primary and secondary markets.

Guidance

A second opinion on a work offered elsewhere, on an auction estimate, or on the collection as a whole, for insurance, succession or lending purposes.

Collection management

Cataloguing, valuation and appraisals, conservation, storage, transport and customs, insurance, and loans to museums and exhibitions.

Acquiring

Sourcing and strategy

Identifying works that correspond to the collector's taste and to the direction of the collection, and that are expected to hold their value and remain saleable.

Due diligence

Verification of authenticity, provenance, condition and title, and of the seller's right to sell, before any commitment is made.

Negotiation, transport and installation

Negotiation of price and terms, then coordination of shipping, storage and installation.

Selling

The channel is chosen according to the artist's market, the work and the collector's objectives.

Private sale

The work is presented directly to suitable collectors and their advisors, discreetly and without public exposure.

Gallery

Placement through the artist's gallery or a secondary-market dealer, on consignment terms agreed in the collector's interest.

Auction

Proposals obtained from several houses and compared; consignment terms negotiated, including guarantees where appropriate; the sale followed through to settlement.
